Frequently asked questions
Do spaces count as characters?
Yes, in most places. X (Twitter), SMS, meta descriptions and form fields count every space. Some academic limits count characters without spaces, which is why the tool shows both.
How are emoji counted?
This counter counts each visible symbol (Unicode code point) once. Some platforms count differently: X counts most emoji as 2 characters, and an SMS switches to a 70-character limit per message when it contains emoji or non-Latin characters.
What is the character limit for a meta description?
Google does not set a fixed character limit; it truncates snippets by pixel width. Around 150–160 characters usually displays in full on desktop, so that is the common target.
Is my text sent anywhere?
No. Counting happens in your browser only.
